At this point....

It is official...blogging is not my thing at this point in my life. However, I will use this experience as practice :) In the last three weeks we managed to complete a medical clinic in Bello Horizonte...Thank you Ohio State and Yale students. Three health fairs were implemented and resulted in much success. The completion of 13 latrines took place in Cuidad De Dios. The agreement was that the suprastructure would be completed by the families who signed up to get a latrine this summer. The students were able to see two completed latrines from bottom up....a proud moment. Oh yea...there was also the initiation of getting the Plaza de Armas completed with gardens, benches, and a little plaque to state the heart of Cuidad De Dios as a community (this was interesting for me to hear as the community as a whole are working on trust and what it means to be a community. Please keep them in your prayers).
My main role was to be a bridge between Engineers Without Borders (along with MOCHE)and the Cuidad De Dios community. I was also given the opportunity to work with Yulissa, a 21-year old president of the community. I pretty much served as a consultant and in turned recieved so much. Please keep her in your prayers as well as she has visions and dreams for her community and desires to be a pharmacist. Yulissa started the univeristy this past week. I cannot imagine all that is in her head, but can only hope she looks to the source for strength and serenity.
Highlight Summary points:
1. July 18-29 was a tough period as we all worked right on through. The groups worked on latrines, organizing health fairs and implementing them, and finishing up with the health clinic.
2. July 19-25 a church group from North Carolina came to assist with the latrines and one of the health fairs. It was called United Methodist Church, in which the pastor is the dad of Esther, the public health director (if I have not mentioned her before...let me just say she ROCKS!)
3. July 21 the Engineers Without Borders and Yale studenets left Trujillo, as their work time period was completed and Ohio State helped with the latrines the following days.
4. July 23 N 24 Health Fairs were very enjoyable. We had skits provided by another NGO called Circulo De Solario. This non-profit is from Spain. There vision is to train community members who are in the health profession industry to be more proactive in health promotion and disease prevention.
5. July 31 Had the opportunity to go to Chicama and surf the longest left break in the world :) and yes...it is a long amazing ride. Felt pretty relaxed observing the scenary as I was floating on water :)
6. Aug 2 Finished the projects...wahooo!!
7. Aug 3 Took a bus ride to Puira, Peru to visit family.
